Can politics sink to such low moral depths that it will put the lives of Americans at risk? Will politicians use a natural disaster, which is causing immense suffering, to benefit themselves alone? The answer to both is a horrifying yes.
The island of Puerto Rico is still suffering the aftermath of two hurricane hits and is expected to be without power for about 5 months. Being an island makes the logistics of running humanitarian aid to it very difficult, so it is infuriating when those supplies that do reach the island are being cherry picked by political elites or, for some unknown reason, tossed in the trash!
The Conservative Treehouse reports that a YouTube video depicts “Puerto Rico’s Secretary of State showing boxes and boxes of food, water and supplies being discarded by Puerto Rican officials in dumpsters, obviously not reaching the intended residents.”
The news follows last week’s report that government officials were hording supplies for themselves and their patrons, much like that captured in a photo of San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz standing in front of pallets of supplies while lecturing President Trump on not getting aid out to those who need it.
The Treehouse quotes a source with the FBI saying, “FBI agents in Puerto Rico have been receiving calls from ‘across the island’ with residents complaining local officials are ‘withholding’ or ‘mishandling’ critical FEMA supplies — with one island official even accused of stuffing his own car full of goods meant for the suffering populace.”
The Bureau has said anyone caught participating in such disgusting behavior can face up to 20 years in prison. Maybe a stronger dose of justice is needed?
The people of Puerto Rico are suffering and need everybody’s help! If you want to donate, do your research to ensure your gifts of humanity reach those afflicted by apocalyptic storms.
